Jörg Döring was born in 1965 in the heart of the industrial Ruhr area in Germany. From a young age he was interested in art and painting and he later in his life started studies at the Düsseldorfer Akademie, where Joseph Beuys was his mentor.
Döring is highly influenced by the Pop Art movement of the 60’s and 70’s and most of his work portrays a world inhabited by film and television celebrities, comic book heroes and timeless Hollywood icons.
At the beginning of Döring’s journey into contemporary pop art in the early 1990’s we find oversized paintings of comic heroes such as Mickey Mouse and Donald. These works soon become recognized in the art circles.
Jörg Döring is a master at superimposing and combining several images which are applied by hand and afterwards painted over. IN this way multi-layered compositions composed of the collages of images emerge.
